Every square has a side length that is (on the bottom) equal to the red curve (y = √x) minus the blue line (y = 1) which then is (√x - 1). To find the area of some random square then, you would multiply the side length by itself, which then is (√x - 1)2.
To get the area of the solid, integrate from x = 1 to x = 4:
1∫4(√x - 1)2dx
which you can either choose to do manually or by using a calculator. The answer is 7/6 cubic units
