VALUE OF RESISTOR

Question

A resistor R in series with an 8 ohms resistor is connected across a 60 V voltage source delivering 2.5 A of current. What is the value of resistor R ?

Given Data:

Total resistance= (R+8)Ω

voltage = 60V

Current = 2.5 A

We know that V=IR

Put the data in above relation

60=2.5×(R+8)

60/2.5=R+8

24 = R+8

R=24-8

R= 16Ω

Hence, the value of resistor R is 16Ω.

Total resistance = (8 + R) ohms = 60 V / 2.5 A = 24 ohms, so 8 + R = 24 ohms, so R = 16 ohms.
