It is best to draw a picture.
Any standing wave will be vibrating at both ends, and will have
at least one node inside.
The longest standing wave will have one node, therefore half the wavelength
will fit into the pipe.
Therefore the longest wavelength is 1m.
The next one will have two nodes, so the whole wavelength fits into the pipe,
which makes the wavelength 50 cm.
