Cos2x sec2 x – cos2 x
cos2x·sec2x - cos2x
= cos2x · (sec2x - 1) (pull out a common factor from both terms)
= cos2x · (tan2x) (pythagorean trig ID)
= cos2x · (sin2x / cos2x) (quotient ID for tanx)
= sin2x
Alternatively ...
cos2x·sec2x - cos2x
= cos2x·(1 / cos2x) - cos2x. (reciprocal ID for secx)
= 1 - cos2x
= sin2x (pythagorean trig ID)
