Remember here that average speed = distance/time. Let's divide the cyclist's journey into two parts.
For the first part (fast): distance= speed*time = (10 km/hr)(30 min) = (10 km/hr)(0.5 hr) = 5 km
For the second part (slower): distance = speed*time = (8 km/hr)(1 hr) = 8 km
In total, the cyclist traveled 8km + 5km = 13km
