asked 02/21/22Car's distance from the center
A ferris wheel is elevated 3 m above ground. When a cabin reaches the highest point on the ferris wheel, its altitude from ground level is 103 m. How far away from the center, horizontally, is the car when it is at an altitude of 75 m?

Diameter = Maximum Height of Cars - Elevation above ground --> D = 103 - 3 = 100
Radius = 100/2 = 50
Thus, the car will always be 50m away from the center of the ferris wheel.
Given an altitude of 75m, the car's y coordinate considering that the system is only the ferris wheel is 75-3 = 72m, thus the car is 72-50 = 22m above the Center of the ferris wheel. We know that the car is ALWAYS 50m away from the center of the ferris wheel, so we can solve using the pythagorean theorem. Hypotenuse = r = 50
So,
502 = 222+x2 --> 2500 = 484 + x2 --> 2500-484 = x2 --> 2016 = x2 --> 44.8998886412873 = x
The ferris wheel is about 45m away from the center horizontally.
