Given equation is in slope intercept form: y = mx + b, where m = slope = 1/5.
Thus, the slope of the line from the given equation y = 1/5 x - 3 is 1/5
The slope of a perpendicular line will be the negative reciprocal or -5
Write the equation of the line in point slope form: y - y1 = m(x - x1) where m is slope and (x1,y1) is coordinates of point line is passing through. For (x1,y1) = (-5,2) and m = - 5:
y-2 = -5(x --5)
y-2 = -5(x + 5)
to convert to slope-intercept form:
y-2 = -5x - 25
y = -5x - 23
