Mangroves are trees/shrubs that typically grow in tropical/subtropical coastal fringes and wetlands associated with estuaries.
These trees are unique in that they thrive in coastal marine and brackish waters and wetlands. They live in low oxygen, high salt environments that would not usually support other plants.
There are an estimated 80 species of mangrove worldwide. In many areas, the mangrove is a “protected” species. This is because they provide vital ecological services to the coastal and marine ecosystems of which they are a part.
