Use the impulse equation to solve for the force exerted on the shells (which by third law must be exerted back on the helicopter:
FΔt = Δmv or F = mv/t and the m is the number of shells x the mass of each shell (Note: put mass in kg)
Once you have F, you can solve for the acceleration of the helicopter: a = F/ MH (a negative number)
You are then finding Δv = aΔt (the effect on the v of the helicopter.
