For L + (3-L), you can remove the parenthesis and add everything as follows:
L + (3-L) = L + 3 - L
The "L" and the "-L" cancel out, leaving you with 3. Therefore: L + ( 3 - L ) = 3
For L x (3-L), because the outside L is being multiplied by the paretheses, you would distribute the L to the 3 AND the L as follows: L x (3-L) = L x 3 - L x L = 3L - L2
L × ( 3 - L ) = 3L - L2
