Rapid rental car charges a $35 rental fee, $20 for gas,and $0.25 per mile Drivin. For the same car, Capital car charges $45 for rental and gas and $0.35 per mile. for how many miles is the rental cost at both companies the same?

Let x be miles driven, and y be cost

y₁=50 +.25x Rapid Rental cost per mile

 

y₂=45 +.35x Capital cost per mile

The cost will be the same when x has what value?

 

50 +.25x = 45 + .35x

.5x = 5

x= 10

If customer drives 10 miles the cost will be the same no matter which company is used.
