Charles Burnett's film Killer of Sheep explores the narrative of Stan through a series of images from his working-class existence as he contends with his profession, his family, and a crime influence. There is no clear causal connection between each vignette in the film, sporadic and relatively discontinuous. A depiction of Stan's lifestyle can be seen through these seemingly unrelated occurrences. Even though these scenes are entirely unconnected, the slaughter of sheep is a recurring theme, as Stan's employment is in a meat shop. There are also several incidents involving automobiles and transportation. Through the idea of movement, the film finally depicts rigidity issues in a working-class living and how it destroys our dreams.
