Remember that vertical and horizontal velocities follow different rules -- they don't affect each other at all. So the answer to this problem is the same as if the builder just dropped the shingle from rest

1. Initial velocity is 0 m/s
2. Distance/height is 9.4 m
3. Acceleration is 9.8 m/s²
4. You should have a formula that includes those 3 variables and also the final velocity that you are solving for.
