If J is the midpoint of JL, then JK = KL. Thus we can equate the expressions for JK and KL:
2x + 7 = 4x + 1
6 = 2x
3 = x
Since J is the midpoint, the length of JK or KL will be equal to 1/2 of the length of JL
Selecting JK: JK = 2x + 7 = 2(3) + 7 = 13.
So length of JL is 2 * 13 = 26

OR .... JL = JK + KL = (2x+7)+(4x+1) = 6x+8 = 6(3)+8 = 2609/24/21
