A train starts from rest and accelerates uniformly until it has traveled 2.1 km and acquired a velocity of 34 m/s. The train then moves at a constant velocity of 34 m/s for 430 s. The train then slows down uniformly at 0.065 m/s^2, until it is brought to a halt. What is the total distance traveled by the train?

First 2.1 km, distance 2.1 km obviously = 2100 m

Next 430s, distance = velocity x time = 34 x 430 m

When braking : v² = u² + 2as (one of Newton's equations of motion)

v = 0 m/s (final speed), u = 34 m/s (initial speed), a = -0.065 m/s/s (given), using these find s.
