Since you do not share the "initial solution", it's pretty hard to know what an "alternate solution" is. However, here are a couple of ways to convert 1 year into hours:
You can do a similar thing with weeks in a millennium. Start with 1 millennium, convert one step at a time to get to weeks Example: (1000 years)/(1 millennium), (52.179 weeks)/(1 year), etc
In both of these examples, I accounted for leap year. You may or may not wish to do that.
For problem 3, in order to use centiliters as the unit of measure, you can convert everything to centiliters and then do the math. To do so, look up centiliter and you'll see it is one hundredth of a liter (or there are 100 centiliters in 1 liter).
Convert 2 liters into centiliters: 2 L x (100 cL)/(1 L) = 200 cL
Look up deciliters to find that it is one tenth of a liter (or there are 10 dL in 1 liter). Convert 9.5 deciliters into centiliters: 9.5 dL x (1 L)/(10 dL) x (100 cL)/(1 L) = 95 cL
So, 200 cL - 75 cL - 95 cL = 30 cL
