standard form for an equation of an ellipse is
(x-h)^2/b^2 + (y-k)^2/a^2 = 1
where (h,k) is the center of the ellipse and
a and b are the semi-axes of the ellipse
(x-2)^/(sqr8)^2 + (y- -1)^2/(1)^2 = 1
center is (2,-1),
horizontal semi-axis = sqr8 = 2sqr2 = about 2(1.414) = about 2.828
vertical semi-axis = 1
vertically from top of the ellipse to the bottom = 2
horizontally from the far right end of the ellipse to the far left end = 4sqr2 = about 5.656
