when the equation is solved for y, then the slope is the coefficient of the x term and the y intercept is the constant term.
y= 3x +5 has slope =3 and y intercept = 5
y=mx +b is the slope intercept form of a linear equation where m= slope and b = the y intercept
with
y=3x +5, 3=m and 5= b
plot the point (0,5), that's the y intercept. draw a fairly steep upward sloping line through that point. You could find another point on the line, such as (1,8) and connect those two points with a straight line. That's the graph of the equation. Put arrows at the end of the line segment to show it extends forever in each direction.
the x intercept is when y=0 = 3x+5 or x =-5/3 plot that point (-5/3,0) and connect it with the y intercept with a straight line. That's the graph of the equation, extending the line in both directions, forever.
