It is always okay to ask the coach. However, once you are 14 and up, your daughter should be asking the coach herself. Coaches even in college prefer when players ask questions as to why they are not playing and how they can improve themselves to fight for the position. It shows dedication and maturity.

asked 06/04/21Is ok to question a coach?
My daughter plays softball on a team of 8-12 year olds. They were losing a game without the chance of coming back. The coach decided that two of the girls should sit the bench for the entire game. Is it ok to question the coaches reasoning? We also had family there from two hours away and the kids did nothing wrong.

Hi Jennifer!
On a team of 8-12 year old kids, it is fine to ask the coach about his decision to sit two girls the whole game. I am not sure if this is a tournament team or just a recreational team, but regardless the point of playing any sport at this age is to have fun and gain experience. Of course, do it respectfully, but it is fine to ask the coach his reasoning behind not playing the girls.
