A child throws a ball straight out a window at 4.5 m/s from a height of 7.5 m.

How long does it take the ball to reach the ground? 

What is the ball’s landing velocity?

This is a case of free fall, as the horizontal velocity out of window does not effect the time of free fall

Using

H = 1/2(gt² )

Initial downwards velocity is zero

H= 7.5m , g= 9.8m/s2

t² = 7.5/4.9

= sqrt (1.53) = 1.24sec
