Let's think back to the early 1900s. What did religious demographics look like in your area? What do they look like now? What services do houses of worship provide today compared to the activities they were involved in back then? What percentage of students were in religious schools then and now? Have any of the teachings changed or evolved? Things to look at include the portion of the population attending weekly services and the rate of different religious affiliations. Non-attendance is much more common today than it was at the turn of the 20th century, and in the United States, we're also a lot more religiously diverse than we once were. You could cite declining religiousity, increasing extremism, the rise of nondenominational spirituality, or the rise or fall of a new or old religious institution. Your options are endless, just remember that you don't have to cover all of these. If this were my assignment, I'd pick a specific religion, religious activity, or denomination, and discuss its evolution within a specific geographical area (whether that's a whole country or just a city neighborhood is up to you).
