lea and mofor are selling pies for a school fundraiser. customers can buy cherry pies and lemon meringue pies. lea sold 5 cherry pies and 5 lemon meringue pies for a total of $110. mofor sold 9 cherry pies and 11 lemon meringue pies for a total of $228. what is the cost of one cherry pie and one lemon meringue pie?

9C + 11L = 228

multiply 1st by 9 and 2nd by 5, then subtract to eliminate one variable

45C +55L = 1140

45C + 45L = 990

10L = 150

L = $15 for a lemon pie

C = (110-75)/5 = 35/5 = $7 for a cherry pie
