You could talk about the amount of money that the federal government spends on education each year (it's a lot) and what that money goes towards and helps. Another thing to mention would be that the curriculum that is set is based on democratic principles. There are also basic protections involving students and schools that are based on democracy (1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education, for example, as well as Title IX).
Some argue that there is too much involvement at the federal level. Too much involvement (like a President with too much power) is less democratic because the decision making is concentrated in one place and not spread out.
