what is the best book for a report?

Doing a report for class. the book is our choice. Fiction and at least 300 pages. school appropriate

What is your age, gender and grade?  Early high school choice, most appealing to females.... The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, by Alan Bradley.   370 pages.  This is a mystery debut written by a 70 year old author.   Good depth with literary references.  An engaging whodunit.  I believe there is a sequel to this book.
