A town's population has been growing linearly. In 2003 the population was 22,000. The population has been growing by 1200 people each year.Write an equation for the population, P,  years after 2003.P =   Use the formula to find the population in 2009:

The population (p) = the original (22,000) + (1200 * x)

P =22,000 + (1,200 * x)

There is 6 years between 2009 and 2003, so plug it into the equation.

P = 22,000 + (1,200 * 6)

P = 29,200
