The recoil momentum of the rifle is equal to the momentum of the bullet but in the opposite direction.

M_bullettV_bullet = 0.006 kg x 500 m/s = 3 kg-m/s

Momentum of rifle = - 3 kg-m/s

Force = - 3 kg-m/s / 0.5 s = -6 Newtons
