In a particular game players spin a circular spinner split into 3 unequal regions. Half of the spinner is colored orange. A quarter of the spinner is green and the remaining quarter is blue.

A) if Julio must spin a green and then a blue on his next two spins to win the game, what is the probability that he will win?

B) if Raj must spin a green and a blue on her next two spins (in any order) to win the game, what the probability that she will win?

A)

 

Prob(green) = 1/4

 

Prob(blue) = 1/4

 

prob of green then blue

 

1/4 * 1/4 = 1/16

 

B)

 

since it can occur in either order the probability is twice the answer above

 

2 * 1/16 = 1/8
