Most people would ring the 27 to the left side to get a quadratic that is not factorable. In this case you would use the quadratic formula.
But if you look at it closer you can factor the left side to (x-7)2. Set this equal to 27 to get
(x-7)2 = 27
Now take the square root of both sides. ( don't forget the + and - )
This gives you x - 7 = + or - √27 = 3 √3
Now add 7 to both sides to get
x = 7 + or - 3 √3
broken up gives x = 7 + 3√3 and x= 7 - 3√3
