You can use the quadratic formula or you can factor this then solve x
x2 - 6x + 9 = 125
(x -3)2 = 125
(x - 3) = √125
(x - 3) = ±5√5
x = ±5√5 + 3
x = 14.18
x = - 8.18
You can check this with the quadratic formula as follows
x2 - 6x + 9 = 125
Subtract 125 from both sides of the equation to give
x2 - 6x + 9 -125 =0
x2 - 6x - 116 =0
Where
a = 1
b = -6
c = -116
Plug the variables into the Quadractic Formula to get values for x
