Question: What minimum force would be required to get a 25 kg chunk of ice moving if it is sitting on ice (the coefficients for ice on ice are µs = 0.1 and µk = 0.03)?
Frictional force equation: F(f) = µF(n)
We use the coefficient of static friction since the ice block is stationary and the phrase "chunk of ice moving" suggests it is stationary.
F(f) = 0.1* (25 * 9.81) = 24.5 Newtons
