A 0.06 kg dart is thrown at 5 m/s and sticks into a 0.1 kg apple hanging at rest on a
string. What is the velocity of the dart and apple just after the dart is embedded?
Hi Chloe
Using
Momentum before impact = Momentum after impact
Momentum = Mass* velocity
0.06 * 5 = ( 0.1 + 0.06 ) *Velocity of dart and apple embedded
0.3 = 0.16*Velocity
Velocity of two together = 0.3/0.16 = 1.875 m/s

Thanks so much I really appreciate it!01/27/21
