Use the kinematic equation: v_f=v₀+at

Find the time: v_f-v₀=at and therefore t=(v_f-v₀)/a

Substitute the numbers:

t=(40m/s-20m/s)/5m/s²=4 s

For second part (how far did it travel) use another kinematic equation: x_f-x₀=v₀t+at²/2

Substitute numbers using the time found it part 1 (4 seconds):

The distance traveled=x_f-x₀=(20m/s)*4s+(5*4²)/2=80m+40m=120 m
