well IF it's a right traingle, pythagorus says:
x^2 + x^2+12x+36 = x^2+14x+49
2x^2 + 12x+36 = x^2 + 14x+49
x^2 - 2x - 13 = 0
quadratic formula says:
[2 + sqrt(56)] / 2 = [2 + 2*sqrt(14)]/2 = 1+sqrt(14)
x=4.74166.. is the approximation per quadratic formula...
a=1+sqrt(14), b=7+sqrt(14), c=8+sqrt(14)
pythagorean check....
a^2 + b^2
1+2*sqrt(14)+14 + 49+14*sqrt(14)+14 =
78 + 16*sqrt(14) + 14
while
c^2 = 64 + 16*sqrt(14) + 14 = 78+16*sqrt(14)
there is our bonifide attempt, pending student REPOST with more necessary information..
