Hal and Sal work on a base wage plus commission. Hal makes $150 per week plus a 40% commission on total sales. Sal makes $175 per week plus a 35% commission on total sales. What amount of sales will each need to make their pay equal? What will be their gross pay?

Answer 1

s = amount of sales

 

Hal makes 150 + 0.40s

Sal makes 175 + 0.35s     For equal pay

 

150 + 0.40s = 175 + 0.35s

0.40s = 25 + 0.35s

0.05s = 25

s = 500

 

When they both sell $500 their pay shall be the same.
