As per above calculation

48

 In this case  buying 48OZ is cheaper.

The best thing to do to solve this problem is to find how much they sell each jug if you only buy 1 ounce (oz).

 

$2.99 for 36 oz:

 

$2.99           $0.083055

-------    =     ----------

36 oz               1 oz.

 

 

$3.99 for 48 oz:

 

$3.99           $0.083125

-------    =   --------------

48 oz.             1 oz.

 

 

based on the answers, $0.083055 is a smaller amount than $0.083125

 

the better deal is the small jug which costs $2.99 for 36 ounces because of the cheaper price per ounce amount
