The Enlightenment school of thought prioritized ideals like liberty, equality, freedom, and justice. These concepts are seen in the American Revolution by the text of the era. A perfect example is the Declaration of Independence, which makes statements like “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Enlightenment ideals also pushed the humanist belief that human understanding of God, nature, and the universe was the foundation of reality, which is why documents from the American Revolution often explained the reasoning of the writer as a part of the message.
