So the equation for this would be:
3(n+1)=5+n
The sum of a number and 1, n+1, is in parenthesis because it is being multiplied by 3. On the other side, 5 plus the same number, n, is is equivalent.
Then you have to simplify the first side by multiplying three throughout. It would then become:
3n+3=5+n
Then you can move n from the right side to the left side. It would be subtracted from 3n, and would equal 2n. Then the equation would become:
2n+3=5
Then, you can move the three over to the right side. It would become:
2n=2
Then, you can get rid of the 2 in front of the n by dividing the right side of the equation by 2. The answer is:
n=1
This means that the number in the equation is 1. When you write the equation with 1 instead of n, it makes sense.
3(1+1)=5+1
3(2)=6
6=6
