Bob is the star forward on his basketball team. In one game, his field goal total was 23 points, made up of 2-point and 3-point baskets. If he made 4 more 2-point baskets than 3-point baskets, how many of each type of basket did he make?

Let 3-point baskets = x

Let 2-point baskets = x+4

 

3x+2(x+4) = 23

 

3x+2x+8= 23

5x+8 = 23

5x = 15

 x = 3

 

He made 3 baskets worth 3 points.

He made 7 baskets worth 2 points.
