The useful tool here is what might be called the "free-fall equation": d= 1/2 * a * t^2, d = distance, a - acceleration---in this case, the acceleration of gravity---32 ft/sec^2---or 9.1 m/sec^2

Mark is absolutely correct with one minor correction: a = 9.8m/s^2 when expressed in metric units. Not 9.1.10/02/20
