Consider the partial free body diagram shown above; assume the surface is horizontal and frictionless. The applied force does 134.5 J of work while pulling it over a distance of 7.85 m. If the force is at an angle of 29.5°, what is the magnitude of the force?
The horizontal component of force = F Cos Theta ( It is the horizontal component causing displacement)
and vertical component = F Sin theta
Work done = Force * Displacement in the direction of force
W = 134.5 = Force *7.85 = F Cos theta * 7.85
So force = 134.5/ Cos (29.5) *7.85 N
=134.5/(0.87)*7.85= 134.5/6.83= 19.69 N
