So, the standard form of the equation of a line has this format: Ax + By = C. Where A is greater than or equal to zero, and A and B are both not zero.

You were given 2x = 15 + 5y

2x -5y = 15             Subtract 5y from both sides. This is your answer.

By the way: A = 2, B = -5 and C = 15

Standard form mean you have x and y terms on one side of the equation and a constant on the other side.  It looks like this:

 

Ax+By = C , where A, B, and C are constants.

 

 

2x = 15+5y

 

Subtract 5y on both sides of equation

 

2x-5y = 15

All they are asking is for you to rearrange the equation to 'appear' in this form.  By bringing the 5y over to the left side of the equation you solve this.  Subtract 5y from both sides;

 

2x - 5y = 15 + 5y - 5y

 

yields:

B=-5
