Let vf be the final velocity, let vi be the initial velocity, let "a" be the acceleration due to gravity, aka "g" (which is 9.81 m/s2) and let "t" be the time. One of the kinematic equations of motion says:
vf = vi + at
vf = 12 + (9.81)(2.0)
