How does social media affect elections and campaigns? Is this a positive trend? Why or why not?

I believe that social media is not affecting the election directly. Having said that, the forums are definitely contributing to what people think of candidates and policies. Censoring has become an important discussion about these platforms and the election. These are private companies, and they can do whatever they want with their platforms. The question of whether or not these companies should only show one side of the story or exclude things they do not agree with is a difficult question to answer. Ultimately, it should be the subscribers who should decide what they want to see or not see.
