A percentage is essentially the same as a fraction, or a ratio.
There are two good ways to solve this:
- You can solve this like it is a division problem: 3/60, which = .05
- Once you get your decimal, you can multiply by 100 to find out what percent that is, so .05x100=5, so your answer is 5%
- You can solve this by setting up an equation of equal fractions where 3/60 = x/100 and you solve for x
- When solving these problems, you cross multiply to get rid of your denominators leaving you with: 60x = 300
- Solving for x, you divide both sides by 60 and get x=5, so your answer is 5%
