The Electoral College is anti-democratic. Our Founding Fathers were worried that their democracy might descend into mob rule. Their solution was the Electoral College. The Courts have recently ruled that Electors are bound to cast their votes for the candidate that won the popular vote in their state. But in the early days of the U.S., the idea was that if the citizens voted in the majority for a real loser, the Electors could correct that error by voting for someone else that they thought would make a better president. The Electoral College has become an impotent anachronism and should be abolished since - with the recent Court ruling - it cannot serve the function for which it was created.
