Word problems can look more complicated than they actually are. Let's start with what we know:
- The suit was sold at a 28% discount.
- The suit would have not have the 28% discount if it were purchased yesterday.
- The suit cost $588.
In order to find out the original price of the suit, we add 28% to 100% to see what the original price was in relation to the sale price. This gets us 128%. Convert this percent to a decimal (1.28).
Multiply the sale price of the suit (588) by the decimal we found in the last step (1.28). $588 x 1.28 = $752.64
The suit would have cost $752.64 yesterday.
