Let x = #passengers deplaning in Phoenix
y = #passengers all the way to Albuquerque
Then:
x + y = 170 (total number of passengers starting out)
100x + 120y = 19500 (each Phoenix passenger brings in $100; each Albuquerque passenger $120)
Perhaps using substitution method is best. From 1st equation y = 170 - x. Substitute into 2nd equation:
100x + 120(170 - x) = 19500. Solve for x and that will be number of passengers to Phoenix only.
