A bullet fired vertically upwards reaches a height of 500m neglecting air resistance. Calculate the magnitude of initial velocity of the bullet. g=10m/s²

The initial kinetic energy at the moment the bullet is fired must equal the potential energy at maximum height.

mv₀² / 2 = mgh_max

v₀ = √(2gh_max)

Now plug in the numbers and get v₀ in units of m/s.
