a) if the conventional current points north (up), based on conventional current flow which direction will the compass needle point?

According to Ampere's rule , If the current is flowing due North, the the North of Magnetic needle will tend to move towards East by an angle depending upon the magnitude of current in the wire. ( Ampere Right Hand rule)
