In a quadratic equation, the relationship between the x variable and y variable varies. This is because you can have more than one x value that equals the same value of y. Unlike linear equations, only one x value equals a certain y value. Quadratic equations travel in both directions in the dependent variables as the independent variable travels in one direction.
